A Week off to Chill in the Sun

A Week Off To Chill In the Sun

Hey there everyone! Good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you may be. Just thought I’d write a quick update here as I have a week off to chill in the sun.

So, I have a Week Off

So, it turns out after Travelling all the way to Bournemouth that the festival I’d planned to work this weekend has been postponed til next weekend. There are usually two festivals on the same ground back to back. I seem to have mixed them up. I was thinking that it was the second one that had been brought forward a week. Instead, it was the first one being postponed a week.

So here I m with my tent alone awaiting the arrival of the rest of my colleagues. Although, they probably wont start arriving until Monday at least and being as its only Saturday now, I still have a few more days here alone. But on the up side, it gives me a week to chill in the sunny south. A pleasant change from the windy North.

I have the power

Chilling outside Wetherspoons in Ferndown charging up the phone, laptop and belly.

The only trouble is though, being so early to arrive on site is that I have no amenities and no electricity mores to the point to charge my phone and laptop. So here I am taking refuge at the local Wetherspoons in the nearby suburb of Wimborne.

It was a lovely little walk up here this morning and a lovely change to see the almost tropical looking hedgerows of palm trees instead of the Privet hedges we are used to up north.

It’s one of the things I love best about this job. The climate is so much kinder than it is back home in Scotland and it always comes at the right time. Right at the beginning of the season. This works well after a long winter up north, and since we’ve had restrictions with the covid pandemic over the past couple of years, it has been like a Two year long winter for me.

Charging up

So I’m currently charging up everything here. Electricity for the laptop and phone, and a lovely vegetarian breakfast for myself to charge up my own batteries. I decided to go with the Vegetarian breakfast as I have been trying to keep away from red meat as it has a lot of testosterone in it, something which I want to try to avoid for obvious reasons.

I’m a firm believer in the “You are what you eat” philosophy and when you see the way that chickens are kept, it puts me off wanting to eat them. So really, the only meat that I tend to eat nowadays is fish. But as it’s the Summer time, our bodies dont need meat as much, so I am happy to stick to the vegetarian options for now.

Looks Good in the Hood

Another great upside of being here a week early is that I now have time to check out some of the walks and sights in the local area. Normally I dont have time to do this as I’m usually working for the whole time I’m here then straight off to the next job.

But this year I have a whole week to have a stroll around, so I look forward to that. Even the stroll up here this morning was quite scenic. So I’m thinking this afternoon, I shall take a scenic walk back to where I’m camped and then maybe even pop into Bournemouth town centre later on and see what’s happening there.

The hunt is on

The other thing about being the only one here is that i have no amenities for boiling water. For those of you who know me will know that this creates a dilemma. I’m a complete coffee freak in the mornings and having no hot water just will not do. I would normally have my camping stove and a little saucepan with me. But like a dunce, i managed to leave the house without mine (there’s always something).

So my mission for today is to find a hardware store to buy a camping stove. Also a pan to boil water in as well as cook. This will be much cheaper than eating out of takeaways or bar meals. I’m hoping that I will find somewhere nearby here that sells them. But if not, then I guess I’ll be able to find somewhere in the town centre that sells them.

Hi Ho! Hi-Ho! It’s off to work we go!

So, that’s my phone battery and laptop almost charged. So I think I shall grab another quick coffee, have a quick smoke and then get on my merry way searching for a stove and seeing some sites. Stay tuned and I shall let you know of my findings in my next blog post. You can get notifications of my most recent posts by signing up to my Newsletter.
