That was a Pleasant Weekend in Glasgow

That was a pleasant weekend in Glasgow

Good morning everyone and happy new week. How has your weekend been? I hope you’ve all had a lovely time. Personally, I had a very pleasant weekend as I went out socialising in the city centre clubs, the first time in a while. As I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I figured I’d focus on that for this mornings blog update.

A Pleasant Weekend

That was a pleasant weekend

So, I decided to go into Glasgow this weekend to attend a social event on Saturday night that was listed on TV Chix, a community based website mainly for TVs, Crossdressers and admirers. But it’s open to and has members of all genders and sexuality. But it’s a social network I’ve been on for some time now and have found quite a few useful resources in the forums there.

One of these forum threads was a thread in the “Social Meets” category. A few of the girls on there were meeting up for a few drinks in Glasgow around some of the pubs and clubs around the Merchant City , a Queer friendly part of Glasgow.

Well, despite being surrounded by live entertainment all summer, I haven’t actually been out to anything of my own that wasn’t work. So I decided to go as I’d never been to any of the pubs or clubs in the merchant city. So why not? It’s been a busy summer and time to let my hair down.

Glasgow bound

Now one of the reasons I hadnt been out in Glasgow for ages is because living in West Lothian, it’s a pain in the neck to get to and from by public transport which only runs up until around 11pm so absolutely useless if you want to have a decent night out as most of the clubs dont open until about 9 o’clock.

Well, I guess i could have clubbed it til 3 in the morning then try n catch a drink in the casino to hide from the cold while I wait for the first trains to start about 6 o’clock in the morning. No Thank you!

No. I decided that since it had been so long since i’d been out and it’d been a busy summer, I decided to treat myself and just stay the night in a hotel. So I had a look on Bookings.com and bought myself a cheap hotel room for the night. So now I could go out as late as i liked without having to worry about getting home.

I had a pleasant weekend in Glasgow

I should have really booked a room earlier and many of the hotels in the immediate area were up to £200 each, so I settled for a cheaper room at the Britannia Hotel in Charing Cross. This is only a few minutes away from George Square by Train, so not a big problem. But I think next time, I’ll book ahead for a cheaper price closer to the merchant city.

Checking in and heading out

So after much of the usual faffing, I finally caught the train through to Glasgow about 8 o’clock and headed first to the hotel for a quick check in and then head out, into the town to meet the others.

I wasn’t entirely sure where the hotel was, although I knew it wasn’t far as I’ve seen it from afar plenty of times before. But I was pleasantly surprised when I walked out of Charing Cross Train station only to see the entrance to the hotel in front of me. So that was ideal and saved me some time.

The room was nice enough and had a lovely comfy bed and en suite shower and toilet. They provide clean towels but not much in the way of toiletries except for some soap gel from a dispenser fitted to the wall. So If you’re staying there and like to use nice toiletries, then you’re probably better off brining your own. I was kina lucky I had a few bits n pieces in my bag so I was covered.

So, I had a quick coffee and got back on the train into Queen Street station which is right in the heart of the city and only a few hundred yards from Speakeasys where I was meeting up with the others.

Speakeasys

A pleasant night out at speakeasys in Glasgow

Having caught the train into town, I crossed the square and found Speakeasys easily enough. I found the others pretty quick. It was nice to meet a few girls I’d met before and a met some new people too. I also met a couple of people that I knew from online groups, etc but hadn’t actually met before in person. So that was nice.

I very seldom drink alcohol these days after kinda losing the taste for it about 5 or 6 years ago and still wasn’t getting the taste. So I was tempted to get a soft drink but opted instead for some kiddie alcohol and got a WKD to start me off. It wet my lips nicely for the Strawberry Kopparberg cider that came next. I’ve never been a big fan of Kopparberg but this one was actually quite nice.

I arrived there in one of my favourite coats. My leopard skin coat. It’s not real leopard skin of course but Leopard skin sounds classier than Leopard-print, which to me, makes one sound like a walking photo-copy. However, I soon had it off as soon as I got in there as it was pretty warm. It was the first time I’d been in Speakeasy’s but it was a nice enough vibe and I daresay I’d go back again. So we stayed there for about an hour then headed off to the Polo Lounge around the corner.

The Polo Lounge

A pleasant night out in Glasgow at the Polo Lounge

The Polo Lounge was only a few minutes walk away and just around the corner. It seemed pretty lively round there and had quite a few flyers handed to me on the way for other clubs in the vicinity. But it was my first time out in that part of town really so I was happy to let the others lead the way and tag along.

It was a £10 entry fee on the door and wasn’t any queue, so we were in before long. The place was fairly buzzing. Especially downstairs where the dance music was being played. I went down there for a look a few times as I had to go down that way to get to the toilet. But unfortunately, as i had hardly slept the night before, I felt a bit too tired to dance on this occasion. But it sounded wikkid and I’d definitely go back another time.

I spent most of the night sat back up on the ground level with the others. We had our own little bit in the corner ith extremely comfortable chairs and couch. Therre was a vacate landing at the top of the stairs that was a designated smoking area and was quite busy. I met a few cool random people up there as I went up there for a smoke a few times over the duration of he evening,

Off to bed for the night

I had a nice sleep and a pleasant weekend in Glasgow

I was absolutely shattered come 2 o’clock in the morning, had drunk enough alcohol for one night and needed my bed. Most of the girls had headed off earlier. But saying goodbye and see you soon to those left, we went our separate ways and I started heading back to the Britannia Hotel. It had been a great night but i was starting to feel rather hungry.

So I decided to call a pitstop at McDonalds, probably the crappest food in town but it was cheap, cheerful and filled the gap. Although it’s the sort of food that you eat, fully conscious of how shit it really is but just not giving a damn as you’re hungry and quite drunk. that’s kinda how i was. So nursing a nice cappuccino, I finished my burger and carried on back to the hotel.

When I got back, I took my boots off and sunk straight into the bed. It was amazingly comfortable and i felt like i was floating on cloud nine. It didn’t take me long at all before i was out cold and sleeping like a baby.

Rising and Shining

A pleasant weekend

I woke next morning with that all too familiar feeling you get from drinking alcohol. It feels like somebody kicking you in the sides as you’re curled up on the floor. “Ouch!” I thought and pulled myself up, my head feeling as floaty as the bed I’d just come out of. Looking out of my window, down on to the street, I could see that it was hammering down with rain from the splashing of the puddles on the alleyway below my window.

Thankfully, I’d thought ahead before heading through the night before and brought a packet of cappuccino sachets with me. So I had no issues with having a few shots of my normal morning wake up fuel. In fact, I guess coffee is my drug of choice these days. Take away my alcohol and drugs, but dont touch my coffee. It’s sacred. So needless to say, I had a few cups whilst grabbing a quick shower and got dressed.

As I was about to leave, a hotel attendant came to my room door and informed me that I was actually late in checking out as it was a Ten O’clock deadline. She said that this normally incurs a £30 charge. But when I got down to the reception, I explained to the clerk that I had no idea of the 10 o’clock deadline because there was no indication. I had a slip of paper with some details on it that came with the key card, but it only said the check out date. No time included. The clerk was really cool about it actually and said not to worry about it and that they wouldn’t charge me. So that was a relief.

Tour de La Clothes Shops

A pleasant weekend in Glasgow looking in the shops.

Since I was relieved not to have lost thirty quid on a hotel fee, I figured I might as well go and treat myself to some new clothes, or at least have a walk into the town and see if I can find anything I liked. I actually had a pair of boots or shoes in mind as I had recently heard of a shop somewhere on Sauchiehall street that sells plus sized Womens footwear. Being a size 10/11 doesn’t help when you’re trying to find new boots or shoes and often have to shop online. But since I was already in Glasgow today, I might as well have a look.

It didn’t take me too long to find the very shop. It was a factory clearance store that sold all sorts of clothing and footwear and I enjoyed having a good look around at all the different rails full of blouses, dresses, jeans, coats and of course footwear. They had a decent range of high heeled shoes but I didn’t see any to my taste as I’m more of a boot girl myself. In the end, I didn’t buy any boots either as their selection was quite limited. But I must admit, I did see a pair that have been growing on me since, and might end up going back for them.

But I saw a lovely hoodie that I liked, so I bought that instead. It was black and leopard print. Probably my favourite colour for clothing. Feeling happy with my purchase, I carried on into town, stopping on the way to have lunch and get a few bits and pieces from the pound shop. It was the first time I’d been in Glasgow city centre for ages apart from when I’ve been passing through quickly, changing buses or trains. So it was nice to just chill for the afternoon and have a lovely unhurried stroll around the shops, having a look at anything that caught my eye.

Rollin Home

So having had a nice leisurely stroll down Sauchiehall street looking in all the different stores, I finally reached Queen Street Train station. It was now approaching tea time and the evening was drawing in. So I figured it was about time to head back home and get comfy for the night. It had been a good weekend.

Having about Twenty minutes to kill until my train arrived, I had a little walk around George Square, looking at the statues there and the beautiful Georgian architecture of the buildings surrounding it.

The train arrived promptly and I rolled on and got comfortable even though I was dying to use the toilet and both toilets on the train were out of order. But before I knew it, I was back in Bathgate and just a short walk and I was home. It was nice to get back and chill with some Netflix for the rest of the evening.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Well, I decided that since it had been a busy weekend so far, I would rest myself all day Sunday and devoted the day to playing Second Life and watching movies. Sometimes it just has to be done. I often find myself pulling “Emergency Sunday’s” in the middle of the week or whenever I happen to feel the need as I’ve never really been a Monday to Friday sort of person. But it’s kinda cool when it actually falls on a Sunday itself.

All in all, it had been a good weekend so far and the busiest I’ve been for the past few weeks. So it was nice just to chill on Sunday and have a nice and easy chillaxed day. After all, isn’t that what Sundays are supposed to be for anyway?
