If Cher Strauberry is a name you are not yet familiar with, then I urge you to read this article. Cher is a truly inspirational Transgender Skateboarding Punk rock legend with some amazing songs that she sings both as a solo artist and with her Punk band Twompsax.
Who is Cher Strauberry?
Cher Strauberry has now become a big name in the queer skateboarding scene since her partnership with Vans shoes and clothing where she has released her own range of leopard print clothing. Cher was also instrumental in the formation of the Unity Skateboarding group. Unity is a skateboard company that specializes in artistic skateboards for the queer skater scene in Oakland California.
Cher was born in Antioch California in 1992 and at age 12 won first place in the California Amateur Skateboard league. However after a succession of ankle injuries she gave up skating for over a decade and never even had a skateboard or picked one up for around Ten years.
Tragedy Struck
When Cher’s childhood sweetheart died of a Heroin and Fentanyl overdose, Cher took up skating again knowing it’s what she would have wanted. She would spend hours each night just skating for miles and miles on her board.
When Skateboard champion Leo turned up at her gig, Cher was finally inspired to taking up Skateboarding on a Pro level again, and wow! She can do some nifty tricks o that board.
Transitioning
In 2018 Cher announced to her friends that she was Transitioning via Instagram. She says that she had no idea that she would become word famous and that the Idea was initially only to tell her friends. Nevertheless, she has become an inspiration to many.
Cher shares her hopes with us that someday soon, there will be a whole new generation of Trans skaters who can take the lead. But, in the meantime she can only do the best she can as that icon.
Evil Twins
Evil twins was Cher’s original band whilst still going by the name Trevor Straub. However she hates being called that name and says that if she hears it more than 5 times then it completely sets her back. That’s totally understandable and I can totally empathize with her on that one as I feel the same way when people deadname me or when people misgender me. However, although her dead name is dead, her music still rocks. Here’s the Evil Twins Album “Evil Twins”.
Twompsax
Twompsax is Cher’s current punk band and they kick ass. Their songs are designed to inspire transgender people all around the world to take back what is rightfully theirs – The right to live. They have a great old fashioned crisp punk rock sound to them. Short and sweet and straight to the point.

Unity
Cher was also a founding member of the Unity skateboard company in Oakland California. Unity was to become a CenterPoint for the queer skateboard scene in Oakland and creates loads of amazing artistic boards.
It has become a haven for many queer skaters in California. Unity has also proved to be inspirational to queer skaters worldwide. in 2018, the London Unity skateboarding club and shop was established in the United kingdom.
Pathing the way for the future
Cher says that hopefully in the future there will be a whole new generation with all the answers on what its like to be Transgender and be a skater. But as there is no such thing yet, then she will try her best to be that person and set that example. Well, I have to say, she really does a fine job of that.
Personally, I find Cher very inspiring. In fact, i have to admit that after 5 months of not picking up my guitar or singing a note, I was inspired to do so when I discovered Cher Strauberry.
She is a perfect example of how any Trans woman can be a successful singer and performer. This is something that I have always loved doing but spent a few months cringing at hearing my own voice. But after seeing Cher perform, I was completely changed and started playing again.
Kicking back
In light of the intense amount of Anti-Trans propaganda and the rise of hate groups Cher says “The people who want us dead and won’t give us basic human rights. Those people aren’t tired. We’re out here, regardless of all the f@#ing walls, and we will continue to be out here doing it.”
2021 has witnessed the highest rates of homicide against Trans people in the United States. Globally, we have seen the highest amount of Anti-Transgender propaganda because many of the radical Christian fundamentalist groups have been throwing large amounts of money into this to keep this hate fueled literature going. Cher perseveres hard at getting across her message of Trans Joy and Celebration.
