Well, I decided Today that I would Treat myself to a New pair of Dr Martens Boots. So, I went for the Black Leather traditional ankle boots.
These types of boots have been the style i have been accustomed to for years. Although, perhaps not so feminine. So I can now wear combat boots again without cringing. Damn, it makes me cringe just to see those old boots i used to wear.
Dr Martens Boots Review
So having had a funny kind of relationship with these boots for many years, I decided that I would sit down and write my own review of them.
This of course is only my own opinion of the boots. I would be very interested to hear your own Thoughts and opinions of them in the comments below.
Dr Marten Boots
Dr Marten Boots were originally manufactured in the UK as work boots. This was mainly for Factory workers. They have always been famous for their ultra hard wearing soles. These were designed to withstand the often abrasive floors of the workshops, factories and mills, etc.
They were indeed a hard wearing boot, not only on the sole but also the strong stitching of the upper body. A worker could buy a pair of Doc Martens and expect them to last a lifetime. Just the occasional visit to the cobblers every few years to get a resoling.
In the late 1960’s when the Skinhead culture took off in London, Doc Martens became an accessory to the Skinhead dress code and Regalia.
Many Punks would later wear Doc marten Boots too, often the high top boots, which by this time some of the Skinheads had evolved to wear.
So when most of the factories in the United Kingdom were to close down throughout the 1980s, Dr Marten Boots had already established themselves as a household Casual wear Brand, slightly deviating from its previous “Workwear” market and clientele.
Different Colours
With the casualisation of Dr Marten Boots came a whole new range of different colours. Also Glossier versions in patent leather as well as the Traditional more Matt Effect of the Original boot.
You can new get Dr Marten boots available in the Original Black and Cherry Red colours as well as Emerald Green, Bottle Green, Royal Blue, Navy Blue, Yellow, Light Pink, Hot Pink, Pillar Box Red, Blood Red, Brown, Tan and countless different artistic designs as well.
They have an amazing selection of colours nowadays and have come a long way from being predominantly “Men’s Boots” to being completely Unisex. They have many feminine looking boots as well as the more masculine ones.
The Good
The thing I find so great about Dr Martens Boots besides their great quality is that they’re very chic. Especially as you get into some of the groovier colours and patterns of boots.
I particularly love the look of the Emerald Green patent Dr Marten Boots. They seem to have such a positive glow to them. So do the Hot Pink Patent boots and the Royal Blue Patent Ones.
Although I have to Say that the Pillar Box Red ones have to be the most eye catching in my own opinion.
The Bad
The only thing with Dr Martens is that even though they were once a work boot, I personally wouldn’t use them for work and for years have always avoided them for that purpose.
As they were designed, they are great for a flat factory floor, which makes them great for the pavement or dance floor.
But they are absolutely useless on rough Terrain and there’s a good chance that if you persist on using them to walk around on rough terrain such as the woods or hills, etc, you will end up damaging them and bursting them (if you don’t break your ankle beforehand).
They are not cut to the dimensions needed for a forest floor or hillside scrambling. For that, I would recommend the German Para Boot. Not exactly the most fashionable, but ideal for Scrugg Scrambling.
My Verdict on Dr Martens Boots
As I mentioned above, Dr Marten Boots are not the greatest if you want to be “Off-roading” on your feet. But if you want to look cool and colourful, then they are a great pair of boots to buy.
In my own case, what attracts me to Dr Marten Boots is that they are a lot less masculine looking than the German Para Boots that I used to always wear.
They’re slightly more feminine looking whilst still retaining an element of the same style which I have been accustomed to for so long as a boy. So they have a certain comfort that comes with them that way for me aand I always feel good in this style.
Where Can I get a Pair
You can get Dr Marten Boots in many of your regular High Street Stores like Schuh and the like. But i must warn you that they are seldom cheap in these places.
You can actually pick up the a pair online for a lot less. When I say a lot less, I’m talking about the difference between £160 a pair to £30 a pair.
Having had a good shop about I found an eBay Store selling them for £30 with £7 P&P.
They seemed to have a small selection of different colours. Colours such as Traditional Black and Cherry Red as well as Blue, Patent White and Brown.

Such an amazing brand of boot, they are so reliable and as you have covered they are really diverse in how they can be used. I haven’t owned a pair for a few years now but after reading this I remember how much I enjoyed wearing them, maybe it’s time to add a pair to my cart now.
Thanks for sharing
Theyre definitely a great boot to have handy.
As I said in my review, perhaps not the best for Off-roading, but definitely cool for the pavement or dance floor.
Have a great day

Hey there Danny
I’m glad you found my review of my Doc Marten Boots useful.
I really like them for casualwear.
I tend to go for something more robust if I am working in a field or walking off road. But for casual wear around the town, i love wearing my Doc Martens as they look much more feminine than chunky boots which i have worn for years.
I’ve never really been one for High Heels as i find theyre generally a pain to walk in.
Thanks and have a lovely weekend
