So What Does this Coronation Really Stand For?

So what does this Coronation really stand for?

So all over the United Kingdom and commonwealth countries of the former British empire today will be celebrating the Coronation of King Charles. But it might be worth asking ourselves just how much a celebration it really is.

What does this coronation stand for?

In the Queen’s entire reign, although she had the power to block any act of parliament, she never actually did. Charles on the other hand hasn’t even got the crown on his head and he has already blocked an act of the Scottish parliament that was democratically decided upon.

Not a very good king in my eyes to be honest with you. Sounds like something that belongs back in the Middle or Dark ages or from a dystopian fantasy novel where the evil king oppresses everyone. No thanks!

What is the Coronation?

What does this coronation stand for?

This weekend will see the crowning of King Charles the Third of the United Kingdom. This is the official ceremony of his appointment to the office of Monarch. His mother, Queen Elizabeth the Second was the UKs longest serving Monarch, reigning a total of 71 years from 1952 till her death last year in 2023.

In the time of the Queen she mainly stood as a mere figurehead which served its purpose for the sake of tourism and so on but the queen as a monarch was always pretty careful not to interfere with matters of parliament. However, Charles here seems to be following in his namesakes habits of interfering with parliament. His ancestor Charles the First did, and lost his head as a result.

The Role of Monarchy

In recent times, the monarchy has become a kind of figurehead for the purpose of maintaining Tradition and the monarchical state. However, it really has as far as the law and politics is concerned, a figurehead and nothing much more. Yet, the monarch still is the head of state, and even though they dont, they can overrule any parliamentary decision if they so choose.

The Queen never done this throughout her reign, yet Charles hasn’t even got the crown on his head and he has already stuck his oar in and blocked a decision that was democratically made through due process., albeit at the behest of the unelected Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who may once in his term, request that the monarch steps in and revokes an act of parliament.

Blocking the Gender Recognition Bill

I have to say that the blocking of the Gender Recognition Reform Bill was something that affected me personally. But even if it hadn’t, I would still be outraged at the decision of the King to block it. In fact, even if I was completely transphobic and fundamentally disagreed with the Bill, I would have still been against it being blocked like this because its not just a matter of the Bill in question. It goes against all democratic process and ideology and belongs in the dark ages. I mean, in this day and age, we still have Kings dictating to us.

what is this coronation all about?

It really annoys me why more people are not outraged by this simply because it doesn’t affect them personally. Or so they think. The thing is, if they can do it with the Gender Recognition Reform bill, then they can do it with any bill. It should not matter to people WHAT the bill is and whether or not they personally agree or disagree with it.

People say they want to live in a fair and democratic system. Well this is not fair and democratic and if they are willing to sit back and watch this happen, then they have no grounds to complain when the king does it again with something that DOES affect them directly.

A Royal Insult

It really pisses me off when i hear the apathetic reaction of “well, I’m not sure if i agree with the gender…”…Whoah! Whoah! Stop right there! This isn’t the time for you to agree or disagree with it! that time has passed. The decision has been made and it was an overwhelming majority. Just because You personally disagree with something, it is no grounds to dismiss democratic process. Or do we only have democracy when its in your favour is it?

No! It doesn’t matter WHAT the bill was or whether or not you agree or disagree with it, If you believe in democracy and want democracy, then you should be standing up. Standing up and demanding a review of this decision in the name of all things democratic and fair. If you dont, then why should anyone else be bothered when its YOU who is affected when they do the same again with a different Bill. What is the whole point in having democratic process, if its just going to be blatantly ignored?

So, what does this Coronation Stand for?

what does this coronation stand for

The system of Kings and Queens ruling over us belongs in the Dark ages with dragons and all the rest of the fairy-tale stuff. This is the 21st century we live in where democracy is supposed to be how its practiced. Not to be overruled by some draconian tradition that the Monarch can simply say “I’m the one in charge and I say No!”. Really? Are you fucking serious?

Is this the system you really want to live in? If we let this pass, then this coronation may as well stand for a new era of Dictatorship. Or do we stand up and demand that the monarchy be kept for show value only to keep the tourists coming in but not to interfere with parliamentary decisions. This should be a no brainer.

Demand a Review of the System

It’s high time the people demanded a review of the system that allows a sole person, (i.e. a monarch) to interfere with decisions that were made by parliament according to all the rules of democracy and fair play. No system should ever be allowed to be in a position where the parliament and people vote for one thing yet the King gives them another. No way! we live in the 21st century, NOT the 16th century!
