Have you ever experienced that feeling you get when you realise you’ve lost your phone? Your heart feels like it’s just skipped a beat and your blood has run cold as the panic starts to kick in? This was me yesterday when i didn’t know how to find my phone after I lost it at the shops.
No Idea How To Find My Phone
Well, I was totally relieved thankfully to find it in the end. But I must admit, the suspense was dramatic and I seriously dreaded that I wouldn’t find it . So you can imagine the relief when i finally did. That much that I figured that the story definitely needs telling, even if only once.
So grab yourself a coffee, sit back and enjoy the drama. I explain to you how this misfortunate fiasco came about. Then working out how to find my phone whilst my heart was beating ten to the dozen.
A Leisurely stroll around the shops
So, I had an appointment yesterday up in Wishaw and afterwards I decided that I would take the opportunity while i was there to have a look around the shops. The high street there looked pretty busy and had quite a few charity shops which I do love to have a look around and see if I can find any hidden gems within.
Well, in actual fact, my trip down to the high street was already pre-decided by my bladder as i was absolutely bursting for a Pee and needed to find a toilet fast. So I figured that there would almost definitely be a café or bar even that i could use their Toilet facilities to relieve myself.
Well, right I was and pretty soon I found a Costa coffee shop that had a toilet and the staff there were very kind in letting me use it even though I wasn’t as yet a paying customer. So I was thankful to be able to use the toilet and take the opportunity to fix my makeup which needed a little touching up. Especially my lippy.
So that being taken care of, I took a leisurely stroll along the high street. I got myself a coffee and went for a little tour of the charity shops and clothes shops, treating myself to some scented candles and picked up a couple of jackets at a bargain.
It turned out quite a good little visit I concluded . Now it was time to head back home as I had a dentist appointment later in the afternoon. So I headed back to the car where I went to check the time on my phone. That’s when it dawned on me. Oh NO! I didn’t have it on me. Damn it! I’d lost my phone.
How To Find My Phone In a State of Panic
Okay, so first of all, when did i last have it? I remembered being on the high street and having it in my coat pocket, but couldn’t remember when. Could someone have dipped my pocket and stole it? Possibly. I had been in the Cash Generators pawn shop where there was a few dodgy looking characters hanging around.
But the phone was a cheap snider I was using whilst my good phone, my Oppo was in the shop being repaired after I tripped on a pothole last week and smashed my phone screen whilst breaking my fall (I know! I’m not having much fun with phones at all of late am I?)
No, that was unlikely. I must have bent or crouched down to look at something on a lower shelf and it’s fallen out. Maybe if I went back round all the shops I’d just been to, someone may have handed it in or it would still be where i dropped it. So I took a trip round all the shops I’d been to just 10 or 20 minutes previously and asked if anyone had handed it in. But I was disappointed .
Although when I asked one store assistant, she replied with “Oh! Now hang on!” I was exited they’d found it, until she continued “..I’ll ask the manageress”. The Manageress came over and confirmed that she hadn’t had anything handed in. What an anticlimax that was.
So I went back round them all again, this time checking the floor and shelves at any bits I could remember being at. Still no sign of it. Could it be back at the car in the bag of shopping I took back there earlier? I headed back to the car and had a look there. Nothing. This wasn’t happening.
Why is this happening?
So I ended up sitting back in the car and finishing my coffee as my frustration and panic was beginning to look pretty obvious to passers by. Not that any of them bothered to find out why or ask if I was okay or that . But I wasn’t gonna give them the satisfaction of looking like a victim in front of them. So I jumped into the car to hide while i regained my senses.
Instead, I had a bit of a meltdown though and it just seemed to get worse the more I thought about the inconvenience of losing it. I was expecting important calls and texts. I wasn’t gonna get them. Losing this phone was gonna cost me a fortune. I didn’t even want to think about it, but I had to. I had to find it. How would i find it? I need to, I’ve got to, but I dont know how to find my phone and its doing my head in. Why is this happening to me?
I’d stopped at the Phone box a couple of times as I was revisiting the shops I’d been in and tried calling my phone. It rang out. But nobody answered. I tried again, but again and again it rang out. This was not happening. “Tell me this is not happening!” I lamented to myself as I sat with my head on the steering wheel in despair. What was I going to do? “I’m totally fucked without this phone” I thought “and not in a good sense either”. I had to find my phone.
Taking the piss or what?
So I tidied myself up, fixed my makeup again and got out the car. I’d take a walk around the shops id been to again and hope that somebody had found it and handed it in. What else could I do? Besides, I was needing a Pee again. Hold on a minute!
I suddenly remembered that I had popped into the Costa coffee shop earlier to use their bathroom. So I traced my mind back. I remembered sitting my phone on the hand dryer while i washed my hands and fixed my makeup in the mirror. Hopefully it would still be there I thought to myself as I hurried back to the Café to see if I’d be lucky enough.
When I got into the shop, I noticed the same girl behind the counter and asked her if anyone had handed a phone in. She smiled and said “I actually thought it was yours cos I remember you used the toilet earlier” .Then she pulled out my phone from behind the counter.
“Wow! What a relief!” I exclaimed ” Thank you so much. I thought I’d lost it that time”. So I put my hand into my handbag and grabbed what coinage I had. there was a few pound coins and some silver. I put it all into the Tips jar on the counter. It was the least I could do. What a relief to find my phone after all that.
Changing times
Well, I have to say, it doesn’t feel like all that long ago that if you told me I’d be so reliant on technology, I’d have laughed in disbelief. But now here I am, pretty much unable to function, having a total meltdown as soon as I’m without my phone for any length of time. That’s something I never thought would happen.
The truth is, we become so reliant on technology because that’s the way the world is moving whether we like it or not. For many of us, we rely on our phones for almost everything in our day to day lives. Our work, Contacts and even our money sometimes can all be on that tiny little device and can be gone just like that in an instance should we lose it or break it.
I suppose its a good thing that you have phone tracing apps such as Find My Phone and the like. I really must install it on my phone when i get it back from the repair shop. It’s having the screen fixed after I fell n broke it having tripped on a pothole in the street last week. But that’s another story.
