Hey there everyone! It’s been a while. After a bit of an absence due to technical hitches galore, it’s great to be back again with a bang, my new PC.
Great to be Back Again
It feels absolutely brilliant to be able to get back online again and write. The past couple of months has been a series of technical hitches that have prevented me from getting on here and writing, which I’ll tell you about in a moment.
But not only is it great to be able to get active again writing, I also have, for the first time in a few years, a PC set up with desk and comfortable chair to get in the zone and write comfortably. Laptops can be handy, but they often lack that vital comfort that a desktop setup provides.
A Circus of Technical hitches
Well, to put it mildly,, the past few months have been a bit crazy here as far as technology goes and has been running more like a circus than anything else.
So, get ready for a laugh and I’ll tell you a story of technological frustration and innovation to exasperation.
Now, its been a few years since I last actually had a computer set up in the home that was nice and comfortable to sit down and write with. I’ve been mainly using the laptop to work online, which are handy & lightweight with the portability that allows you to write wherever you happen to be. But they do lack the comfort that the old school desktop PC setup gives you. But I’d grown used to using the Laptops and had a really good one for gaming and a slightly older one for writing and web searching etc.
However, a few months ago now, my gaming laptop decided to lock me out. In an attempt to get back in, I accidentally wiped the drive and cant seem to get it to reinstall windows from a stick or DVD. So, this left me having to use the slightly older laptop to write with.
I’ve Lost the Keys
But then, suddenly the older laptops keyboard decided to stop working. At first i thought it’d be easily solved with a USB keyboard. But upon trying this out, I soon came to realise it was a software settings issues and not just a broken keyboard as it was still doing exactly the same with the external keyboard as it was with the laptops keyboard.
Basically, it was as if the CTRL key was jammed in as every key I’d press would work as a function. I’d try typing a word and open half a dozen programs in the process and manage to actually type nothing. So, now the only device I have with a keyboard that works is my phone.
So I worked out a way that i could use my Facebook Messenger to send myself a paragraph or two at a time as id write the article on my phone. Although this method did kinda work, it was by no means comfortable to write with and was a bit of a nightmare really. Trying to type with a miniscule keypad.
Down to the Library we go
So, alas, I ended up using the library computers. Although it wasn’t as comfortable as being at home, it was still great to be back at a desk again with a proper monitor, mousepad and keyboard. Yeah, it was great to be back in writing mode again. I realised how much I missed having the conventional Desktop set up.
Then a month or so ago, I suddenly couldn’t get access to my website which seemed to be offline. Trying to navigate anything other than video streaming or anything that doesn’t require typing is a nightmare. I have to use the copy & paste function to write anything. So an article would take a lifetime. Likewise was trying to get onto the help centre to try and recover the website. With my anxiety being pretty bad for a while, it was harder to get to the library.
A tower on the horizon
So after a short period of desolation, hope was on the horizon. On the horizon was a Tower. A PC tower.
The idea of getting back to using the conventional desktop set up had been growing on me since I’d started going to the library to use their computers. So, i decided to buy a second hand PC from a friend. It didn’t cost a fortune. It was pretty cheap. But it’s actually a pretty good computer and perfect for writing with. It feels absolutely brilliant to be able to just sit down and write. Without all the mucking around I have to do with the laptop to do a simple task. It’s such a relief.
It’s also much faster than my laptop too. So that makes a massive difference to your frame of mind. Less frustration at the machine to do its job. It has a nice 8gb of RAM so nice n quick. I haven’t done any gaming on it yet. So, hopefully it should be pretty good for that too.
Great to be Back with a Bang
So, now that I can finally sit and type easily, the way you’re meant to type, I’m rearing to go. Ive had different ideas over the past few weeks that i haven’t been able to write about. It’s been frustrating, but I’m ready to go at it full throttle. Batteries fully charged.
I do enjoy the renewed energy you get when you’ve been unable to write for a little while. I find a similar charge with playing the guitar. If I take a rest for a while, then I come back fully charged. that’s where I’m at just now with writing. Revived, fully charged and ready to go. Great to be back!
